Saturday Presentation:
"Ancient Indian Pathways to
Modern Hiking Trails": Joe and Willi Bevirt take you
along the path of the 210-mile, ancient Indian,
Midland-to-Mackinaw trade route and tell you how they helped
develop it into a modem day Hiking Trail. On the way you'll find
out what tribes lived where and how our modern road system came to
be. You may even be inspired to put on your hiking boots and
experience it first-hand!
Joseph L. Bevirt, Retired
The Dow Chemical Company and
Midland County Economic Development Corporation
Joe joined the Dow Chemical Company
in 1956 as a research chemist. After five years, he moved to
their Marketing Department. His marketing management roles
included marketing research, market development, sales,
corporate account development and general product management. He
was based in Hong Kong for six years and during his career his
technical marketing efforts took him to all 50 states and to
more then 50 countries. He left Dow to become the Executive
Director of the Midland County Growth Council and the Midland
County Economic Development Corporation in 1987. He held that
position until he retired in 1997. Joe holds BS and MS degrees
in biochemistry from the University of Missouri and additional
graduate business studies elsewhere. He is a US Army Korean War
veteran who served in radar and electronics primarily in Japan.
Willi Bevirt, Retired
The Dow Chemical Company and
Midland Public Schools
Willi is also a chemist and a
graduate of the University of Missouri. Willi and their three
children traveled globally with Joe during school holidays in
the summer while living in Hong Kong. In addition to enjoying
being on the Midland to Mackinac Trail, she is busy with tennis,
church groups, hospital volunteering and other activities.
