Saturday Presentation:  "The Art of Interpretive Birding": This program will forever alter how you look at birds and birding. It’s all about training yourself to see and interpret the intricacies of bird behavior. Dr. Jim Davis, an ornithologist from Minnesota, has studied bird behavior throughout North America, Central America and Australia and is editor of “Interpretive Bird Bulletin.” Visit his website at  www.ibirding.com

Saturday Presentation:  "Birders as Amateur Naturalists": Listing species and spotting rarities are prominent activities among birders. But that’s only part of it. Dr. Jim Davis explores the many ways bird watching informs us about the natural world and how assuming the role of amateur naturalist adds new life to bird watching. Once you’ve become fairly proficient at recognizing birds and their habitat, Dr. Davis shows us how a wealth of new opportunities open up to the inquisitive mind.

Dr. Jim Davis

Dr Jim Davis has studied bird behavior for twenty years. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and went on to do a post-doc at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. His scientific contributions have focused on various aspects of kingfisher behavior including territoriality, vocal communication, and mating systems. Over the past 15 years, Jim has traveled to different parts of the world to observe and write about bird behavior. In 1997, he started the Australian edition of Interpretive Birding Bulletin and, in 2000, the North American edition.
