Body art kids’ style

Too young for a tattoo, but want to use your body as a canvas? Youngsters of all ages line up at the kids activity tent to have their faces painted by students from Kirtland’s renowned cosmetology program.

It’s free, and it’s a great way to get into the spirit of the season. Spring and summer themes with flowers, butterflies and balloons are among the most popular designs.

A poster board will be on display showing the paintings that are offered.

And everyone gets something out of it. Kids can wear their personalities on their cheeks for a day, and the cosmetology students get a chance to promote their program and log some hours toward their certificates.

“We are giving back to the community with our services,” said Mary Scott-Rom, a cosmetology instructor, “and my students have fun doing this.”

And for those brave souls who want a tattoo. They’re available. Anyone can get into the spirit of the event with a Kirtland’s warbler tattooed on their faces or arms. They’re temporary, of course.
