Crafters offer array of items at KWF

Every year the Kirtland’s Warbler Festival attracts a unique group of crafters, all featuring unique, nature-oriented items.

Visitors will find award-winning wildlife photography, duck decoys, paintings, lap quilts, ornate baskets and jewelry. One crafter from Iowa offers bird houses crafted from gourds.

The arts and crafts booths are set up on the front lawn not far from the KWF headquarters tent in front of the Student Center. The craft show will be open Saturday, from 9-5 p.m., and Sunday, from 10-3 p.m.

Diane Moreland sold the baskets she weaved at last year’s festival, the first for her, and she found the crowd to be very friendly and interested in her craft. Her baskets, handmade with no glue or staples, sell from $10-40.

Deb Near, a Kirtland employee who coordinates the craft show, said she hears good things from many other crafters as well.

“We always receive great feedback from those who sell wares at the show,” Near said. “They’re nice people to work with; I enjoy working with them every year.”
