There are still some openings left for anyone who would like to
contribute two or three hours of their time at the Kirtland’s
Warbler Festival on Saturday, May 21, 2005. This is an opportunity
to be helpful and to also join in the fun and educational events
of the day.
What kinds of things do volunteers do? They greet visitors in the
parking lot; give directions; sell badges needed for presentations
and tours; help with children’s activities such as assembling
birdhouses and fishing in the pond; provide hospitality at the
fine arts gallery; and assist riders on a horse-drawn wagon to the
near-by Red Pine area.
More than 100 volunteers will be given windbreakers with a logo
that identifies them as volunteers, volunteers who are key to a
smoothly run festival. They will also receive a free badge, their
pass for presentations and tours that they can participate in
after they finish their assigned job.
Volunteers are community members from the counties served by the
college. A few of the volunteers are also on the Festival planning
committee. A significant number are senior citizens whose
lifestyles include embracing a variety of volunteer opportunities;
some are actively involved with RSVP, the Retired Senior Volunteer
Program, and some are college retirees. Other volunteers are young
adults, including current and former Kirtland students.
