Cat Tales: North American Cats
Tom Dale began his career teaching junior and high school science, before coming to Kirtland Community College as a science instructor in 1973. He “retired” from Kirtland in 2000, but still teaches there part time. Also in 2000 he began another teaching adventure when he became the education coordinator for the Margeurite Gahagan Nature Preserve in Roscommon. The job with the preserve keeps him very busy. In addition to coordinating displays and supporting the environmental education programs in area schools, he hosts hundreds of area school children at the preserve every year. Each spring he also visits every elementary and middle school in this region of the state as part of his Visiting Naturalist Program, supported by KCC. His presentation at the festival is the same one he brought to hundreds of school kids this year and is a lively, interactive lesson on the cats of North America, from cougars to house cats. Tom brings plenty of props and is always entertaining. All ages will find this presentation informative and enjoyable.
