Seldom-seen Michigan Herpes

presented by Jim McGrath of Nature Discovery

Jim McGrath

Michigan is home to 53 species of reptiles and amphibians (herps). Yet, the majority of them are unknown to most citizens. Some are just rare, usually due habitat destruction. Others are very limited in their distribution within the state. Still others, while perhaps fairly common, keep so well hidden in their habitat that they go undetected by people who pass through. Using live specimens and PowerPoint slides, Nature Discovery's Jim McGrath highlights a number of Michigan snakes, turtles, frogs, salamanders and lizards fitting to the title. At the presentation's conclusion, participants can watch some of the herps being fed and even get to handle some of the snakes. Bring your camera!
